How no-code tools are changing the game for startups

It’s been almost 2 months since I arrived in Canada, and I have been pretty bad at sending emails since then, right?

Having all kinds of fun with the Stan team

Something I have on my mind recently is how app development will change forever in the next few years.

When I started my coding journey, building and releasing an app seemed impossible.

Today, I built this basic habit tracker app in less than 2 hours:

Is it amazing? No. Is it usable? Yep.

Did I master React Native and become a coding genius? NOOOPE. I utilized a service called Flutterflow.

Flutterflow is a no-code tool that allows you to drag and drop elements similar to Squarespace or other website builder services. Then Flutterflow translates into code, and voila!

Yes, you need to do some backend work.

Yes, I can’t say that the end result is a world-class code base.

But I created an app that is good enough for a prototype in only a few hours, which is crazy.

A lesser-known fact about me is that I co-founded a startup back in 2018 and managed our app development process.

In 2019, it took 3 months to find a software development company that we could actually trust. After finally signing with a team, we needed the same amount of time to develop the first version of our product.

We wasted half a year.

In those six months, we signed several clients but didn’t have an actual product to offer them.

If FlutterFlow had existed back then, I would have been able to learn to use it in a week and have a prototype ready to validate our idea and secure a better investment deal.

This fact just blows my mind.

I don’t think engineers will be replaced by no-code tools or AI anytime soon, but it would be dumb to ignore services like FlutterFlow.

This was my extremely quick update for today. It’s time to play more with some app prototyping.
